I read about the Neat Receipts in one of the many entrepreneur magazine I receive every month and decide to purchase one. This little gadget has changed my life! Basically the Neat Receipt scans, categorizes and stores receipts, business cards, and documents. It is portable and easy for me to use it with multiple computers. No more posts, business cards, or random notes to myself scatter over my desk!
I was introduced to Jacoby & Pronk a few weeks ago through a friend that showed me their Facebook fan page. I immediately feel in love with the married dancing duo. They are HOT, have amazing bodies and have unbelievable extensions, what’s not to love. I am very happy to say that I became their 1000th fan on their fan page. Below are a few pictures demonstrating their intense connection to one anther and why I will not miss their next performance in New York.
Last night was supposed to be the last viewing of Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child at Film Forum but lucky for you it has been extended until August 24th. I have seen a few films about Basquiat, including Downtown 81 and Basquiat, but Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child was by far the most honest and complete capsule of his rise and fall as an artist and a human being. I give this film 5 stars and rate it as a must see.
How cute are these aprons from Simply Savvy Aprons ??? I bought the one on the far right a few months ago and I love it!!!
Bravo has a new show airing tonight Work of Art : The Next Great Artist produced by Sarah Jessica Parker. Having been trained as an artist since I was 3 years old I have mixed feeling about this show. I am sure it has to do with the elitists nature that high academic art training (my MFA) has ingrained in me, but getting past my personal judgements; the judges on the show are welled known in the art world; Bill Powers, Jerry Saltz, and Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn. This show should be interesting, expecially with Jerry Saltz and his Simon Cowell like one line zingers.
My Uncle Eric emailed me a few weeks ago with this Lemon Sunshine Cake recipe from Cafe Lou Lou in Louisville, Kentucky that he says I much try. I have not had a chance to make the cake yet, but my Uncle Eric is a foodie and has impeccable taste!
Lemon Sunshine Cake
For frosting:
· Zest of 4 lemons · 1 stick butter (do not use margarine!), room temperature · 10 ounces cream cheese, room temperature (important!) · 2 tablespoons lemon juice · 2 tablespoons half-and-half or heavy cream · 1 teaspoon lemon extract · 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract · 2 to 3 cups confectioners’ (powdered) sugar · 3 drops liquid yellow food coloring (optional)
For cake (see note):
· 2½ cups all-purpose flour · 3 teaspoons baking powder · 3½-ounce box instant lemon pudding mix (don’t use the type that is supposed to be cooked on the stove – and don’t use Jell-O by mistake. Pudding only!) · ¼ teaspoon salt · ¾ cup (1½ sticks) butter, room temperature · 1¼ cups granulated sugar · 8 egg yolks · 1 teaspoon bourbon vanilla extract · Juice of 4 lemons (I use the lemons that were zested in the frosting recipe above) · ¾ cup half-and-half
To make the frosting: Zest the lemons using a rasp or microplane grater. Squeeze one of the lemons for the 2 tablespoons of juice you need for the frosting, and reserve the rest of the juice for the cake recipe.
Beat the butter until it’s fluffy. Then add the room temperature cream cheese, and beat until smooth. (Warning: do not overbeat cream cheese, or it will curdle!) Scrape sides of bowl often with a rubber scraper.)
Add the lemon zest, lemon juice, cream and both extracts. Mix briefly to combine.
Add the sugar, a little bit at a time, turning the mixer off in between, until you like the sweetness level. Add the food coloring, and mix just until you have a smooth, homogeneous mixture, scraping sides of bowl often. It should be just slightly looser than canned frosting. Chill the frosting in the refrigerator. Allow to come near room temperature before applying frosting to chilled cake.
To make the cake: Heat oven to 350 degrees.
Grease and flour a 10-inch Bundt pan. Mix together the flour, baking powder, instant pudding mix and salt. Set aside.
In a large bowl of a stand mixer, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy using whisk attachment. Beat in the egg yolks one at a time, then stir in the vanilla and lemon juice.
Add the flour mixture alternately with the half-and-half, mixing in between each addition until blended.
Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake in the heated oven for 45 minutes to an hour, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool briefly in the pan, then turn the cake out of the Bundt pan while it is still warm. Allow to cool completely before frosting. Use a decorating comb to make attractive whorls in the frosting. Refrigerate.
Serves 12.
Note: If you are in a hurry, you can use a regular lemon cake mix, adding 1-1/4 cups water, 1/2 cup vegetable oil, 4 eggs (instead of the 3 called for on the package), 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract and a box of instant lemon pudding mix. It’s not quite as rich, but it’s a decent approximation as long as you use the extra amounts of oil and eggs.
I am a huge fan of Cortney and Robert Novogratz’s company Sixx Design who currently have a show on Bravo 9 by Design. The show highlights their warm loving family that create kick ass designs. I ordered their new book Downtown Chic: Designing Your Dream Home: From Wreck to Ravish to gather ideas, so when I buy my brownstone I am inspired.
Below are a few kitchen designs from Sixx Design.

The Olympus Pen E-P1 is incredibly small size, retro style, and ease of use – without giving up any of the benefits of D-SLR quality. 12.3-megapixel interchangeable lens system camera blends the high-quality still images of a digital single lens reflex (DSLR) with High Definition (HD) video, stereo Linear PCM audio recording and In-Camera Creativity within an ultra-portable body. I think this may be my next camera once mine dies or I lose it.
I have not worn a one piece bathing suit since I was about 5 years old and thought I would never wear one again. But this Carmen Marc Valvo swimsuit is making me look at one pieces in an entirely new light. I could rock this swimsuit in Miami and feel just as confident as I would in a two piece. I might need to add this to my overly abundant swimsuit collection….
This summer we will be launching cupcakes on our ecommerce site for customers in the New York City area. In the bakery this week we have been playing around with different cake and frosting offerings. The cupcake above definitely made it to the list. It’s our vanilla cake with cream cheese buttercream frosting. Stay tuned for the official launch of TMB cupcakes!!!

Man Jewelry? To wear or not to wear is the question. I don’t mind a guy that wears jewelry as long as it’s done minimally. I might get jealous if my guy has more bling on that I do. And the jewelry has to be masculine. Noting dainty or delicate. Below are a few pieces from Lazaro I think are hot!
The grand opening of the Union Square Nordstrom Rack took place yesterday. I have been in love with Nordstrom ever since I worked at their Indianapolis store in 2003. When I relocated to New York I was devastated to learn the the closest Nordstrom was in Long Island. All thought the store in Union Square is a Nordstorm Rack (Nordstrom’s version an outlet) I am excited to have them nearby. I LOVE to shop, so I can wait to check out Nordstrom Rack the next time I am in Union Square.
“Vegetarian: Over 300 healthy and wholesome recipes chosen from around the world,” by Nicola Graimes is a go to cookbook when I am stumped on what to cook for the week. I have been vegetarian since 2002 and have made about 200 of the 300 recipes in this book. What I like most about the book is that they show images of the final product of each recipe. I am a visual person, I need to know what it’s supposed to look like when I am done.

Cream Cheese Buttercream Frosting Recipe
1 package powdered sugar (16 ounces)
1 package cream cheese (8 ounces)
1/2 cup butter, softened (1 stick)
3 tablespoons milk
2 teaspoons pure vanilla
Beat sugar, butter and vanilla with electric mixer at low speed until well blended and smooth. Add cream cheese until fully incorporated. If frosting becomes too thick, beat in additional milk by the tablespoon until the frosting is to the stiff spreadable consistency.
Makes about 2 1/2 cups frosting.
Enjoy!
Ever since Erykah Badu’s first single “On & On,” I have been hooked. Everything from her voice, style and fashion choices; her creative intuition is impeccable and daring. Badu’s fifth studio album NEW AMERYKAH PART TWO: RETURN OF THE ANKH released on 03.30.2010. She’s back!!!
I have ran across this Angel Sanchez dress a few times in search of the perfect outfit for a gala coming up in May. Any thoughts about the dress? I think it might be a winner…
After working out for 2 hour yesterday afternoon I stumbled into the 23rd Street Festival on the way to the subway. Not the best thing to run into after working out. I was a little hungry and knew I had a bit of a subway ride back to Brooklyn so I had the corn on the cob with hot chili butter and parmesan cheese. AMAZING! I told myself “that’s all I’m going to have”. Walking through the rest of the fair I bought a couple of shirts for my niece and just couldn’t resist the tempting smell of the Mozzarepas. I ended up getting one (it was my first one ever) and didn’t regret it at all. The combination of 2 Arepa with mozzarella in the middle, unbelievable! Now I have to learn how to make them myself…
My friend David O. gave this mug to me for Christmas last year after seeing it in the MoMA Store. But someone by mistake of course took it off my desk and did put it back. So I made it a point to pick up another one while seeing the Tim Burton exhibit.
This design by Yusuke Fujinuma is genius. I can help but to smile every time I hold the mug and people ask me when did you get engaged???
While at the American Bakery Expo in Atlantic City last week I came into contact with the must have piece of equipment for any baker. The Somerset Sheeter!
The Somerset CDR-500F Dough and Fondant Sheeter makes sugar cookie dough production flawless and allows you to spend less time on production. Sounds like a win win to me! The sheeter not only works with sugar cookie dough but also works with pizza dough, cake fondant, sugar icing, and sugar paste.
Every since Edward Scissorhands hit the big screens I have been a huge fan of Tim Burton. This past Halloween in Fort Greene Park I became the paparazzi trying to snag a photo of this adorable little girl dressed up as Edward Scissorhands. AMAZING!
I have tried several times to see the exhibition at the MoMA. I kept making the mistake of going on the weekends and the exhibition would be sold out. Last Wednesday I made it a point to leave Brooklyn and head up-town to view the show.
There is an abundance of media from drawings, figurines, videos, sculptures, and sketches to movie props. The last day of the exhibit is April 26, 2010 and I have to go see it at least one more time to be satisfied with making sure I didn’t miss anything!
As stated in yesterday post I turned 30 last Wednesday. But I spent last Saturday celebrating the occasion with family and friends at Tribeca Grand Hotel Lounge. I wore this gorgeous Yigal Azrouël Draped Gold Lamé Dress. I felt like a princess!!! Pictures of the party to come…
Last Wednesday I turned the 30 years old! After a busy day getting a tattoo, going to the MoMA and a little retail therapy I met up with my sister at Honey. I had been to Honey once before but I didn’t remember how great their martinis were. We started with the Lemon Drop Martini, then the Apple Martini, and called it quits with the classic Cosmo Martini. The icing on the cake was that all of those martinis were only $5 a piece during happy hour (5-9pm Monday-Saturday). I will definitely be back!
I stumbled upon Artifacts By Casey while reading Nylon’s February issue. Casey Perez describes her creations as “sort of a Duchampian take on jewelry”. I was immediately struck by the plug and socket rings above. I have always been draw to things that are unexpected and exceptional, Casey designs encompasses both.
We have been working diligently on up coming wedding favors for Nikki and Raymond Johnson. Their wedding will taking place Monday, February 22 at 5:30pm and will be a part of TLC’s new show Four Weddings. We will let you know when the Johnson wedding will be aired, hopefully there will be great shots of the wedding favors!!!
I was directed to this genius website yesterday…. http://www.renttherunway.com. Rent the Runway gives users access to high fashion affordable and convenient. It seems super easy, just browse their website until you find something you love. Put it in your basket, tell them when you’d like it delivered, and it’ll appear on your doorstep—in two different sizes, just to be safe. Simple, right? After your event just repack it in a pre-paid packaging and just drop it in a mailbox. I am definitely going to give it a try for my next event!
Last night I was invited to the premiere of the Robert Verdi Show starring Robert Verdi. The premiere took place at the SVA Theatre, which I am sad to say I didn’t know existed. In the lobby of the theatre there was a sea of gorgeous gay men, celebrities, socialites, and the top beauty and fashion bloggers in the city. Here is Robert Verdi’s introduction to his show:
I recently received this gift box of Green and Black’s Organic mix of chocolate and hot chocolate. My sister introduced me to Green and Black’s Organic chocolate a few years ago but the hot chocolate is hands down the most decadent and rich drink I have ever had! The directions indicate to add hot milk to the coco powder, I decided to uses Silk Soymilk instead. This might be my new guilty pleasure…..yummmm!
I became a loyal Apple customer in 2001 when I received my first Apple laptop. This spring Apple is rumored to launch the Apple Tablet, which I know will become my splurge for that month!

This past holiday season Tasty Morsels Bakery had the pleasure of making all of Robert Verdi’s Holiday gift boxes. The gift boxes included a cookie of Robert Verdi’s face and 3 pairs of sunglasses.
The Robert Verdi Show Starring Robert Verdi
